India has become an increasingly important player in the world energy markets with continued rapid expansion of the population and strong economic growth; demand for energy is increasing exponentially. Primary energy supply is expected to rise by an average of 3.1% per year between 2006 and 2030.The demand for oil, gas and electricity would escalate rapidly. The cumulative investment needed over the next three decades to meet the projected increase in the generation capacity alone is estimated at around $2,700 million.
The International Energy Agency has stated that the prospects of energy supply are uncertain due to severe financial crunch, which is the result of decades of under pricing and poor management. Maximum investment will be needed to boost India's power generation capacity and to improve and expand its transmission and distribution network to meet the growing demand.
The IEA has stated that fossil fuels will remain the primary energy source meeting more than 90 % of the increase in demand. The global demand would rise by about 1.5 times from 80 billion barrels in 2005 to 120 billion in 2030 with about three quarters of the demand coming from the transport sector. Oil would remain the fuel of choice in the road, sea and air transportation. Natural gas would play a much bigger role in India's energy needs of the future. With limited domestic resources India has to import more oil and gas. Coal imports will also probably increase as demand shifts to higher quality grades that could be acquired at a cheaper cost. India's fossil fuel dependence would increase from 65% in 2000 to about 94% in 2030.
In this scenario how will we fulfill the energy requirements of the future? We have to adopt a multi-pronged strategy covering a spectrum of choices. IIPE with its vast experience in the field wish to bring together concerned professionals on a common platform to address following critical issues within their competence through an International Seminar on ” POWER VISION” Opportunities & Challenges |
|
OBJECTIVE OF THE SEMINAR |
The growing deficit between demand and supply of electric power, in several countries is an issue of immense concern to all consumers. Adding to the woes is the diminishing reserves of natural fossils, forcing power planners to look at alternative sources of energy.
The objective of this seminar is to discover and consider the feasibility of alternative sources of power as well as finding methods to reduce energy losses in areas of power transmission and distribution by Effective management, Innovative methods, Latest Technology, Optimization of usage and Enhancement of Productivity.
During the seminar, experts from the power sector both from India and abroad will present thought provoking and enlightening papers.
The Seminar aims to bring together professionals and experts from various tiers of power line supply chain, consultants, EPC Contractors, users in Power generation, transmission, and distribution. The seminar will provide a platform for discussions and deliberations. The participants will be benefited through discussions in finding solution to some of their operating problems and strategies
Eminent personnel will make keynote and valedictory addresses. |
